Emma's Story Emma Addison Simpkins 7 February 2000~25 March 2006
Emma had three brothers: Tyler, Isaac & Wyatt. Emma & Wyatt were only 11 months apart so they were the best of friends & did everything together, good & not so good. Emma loved her big brothers & they were her guardians. One time she talked about a little boy at school who wasn't being very nice to her. The brothers thought they should have a talk with him. Finally Mom got involved & put a stop to the talk, however, it showed how much Emma's big brothers took care of their little sister. Emma was the most fun-loving, wonderful sister & child in the world. With her bubbly disposition, she brought sunshine into every room of the Simpkins' house. She may have been the youngest of the four Simpkins children but that did not make her the least of them; actually she was the boss of her older brothers Tyler, Isaac & Wyatt. Emma was always the first one to greet us when we walked through the front door. She would come running & yelling, "Daddy!" or "Mommy!" when we got home from work each day. After the worst day at work, she could make all of your stress just melt away with her greeting. Along with her bright red hair, big smile & bounce in her step, she brought joy into our lives each & every day. Like most 6 year old girls, Emma loved to draw & color on almost anything. There are not many things in our house that she did not autograph for us to remember her by. She loved to write her name & draw flowers. Emma had no fear. More than anything, she wanted a go-kart like her brothers. We told her that when she got older, we would talk about it. Every time we went to the track, she was quick to go introduce herself to everyone in sight. She would walk up & down the pit road talking to everyone without any fear or hesitancy. Emma was a Girl Scout Daisy. She loved being a Daisy & was looking forward to being a Brownie the next year. Emma attended Tutor Time in the mornings & Anthem Elementary Kindergarten in the afternoons. She had many friends that she made during her short time here in Anthem. No matter where we went, to Wal-Mart, Safeway or Starbucks, we seemed to always run into some other child yelling, "Hi Emma!". She had many friends both young & old. picture of Daisy But most of all, Emma was our "Little Girl Princess". After three boys, we tried one last time for our girl. Then it happened. Our red-haired princess! Princess of the house might be an understatement; ruler of the house might be a better description of Emma. All of us did what the "Baby" wanted. She always sat in the middle front seat of our truck, between Mom & Dad when we went anywhere & the boys sat in the back. And the boys knew not to fight with their sister because Dad would always take her side. She was always Daddy's little shadow when we went anywhere. She was also Mommy's girl. She could out shop Mom any day & loved to go with Mom to get her nails done. One of our favorite family activities was hiking. Emma loved hiking more than the others & seemed to have more energy left than any of us when we were finished. That might have something to do with the fact that she did not actually walk or hike, but rather, she rode on Daddy's shoulders 95% of the journey! You could always count on not being bored when she was on your shoulders because she had an endless supply of questions. No matter how long the hike was, she had a question for every step of the way. Emma also had one other special person in her life who was more like a sister to her than a baby sitter: Kortnei. Kortnei was Emma's sitter for most of her six years & they had many adventures together. We would come home & there they would be, sitting in a blue recliner reading a book or coloring. Kortnei taught Emma & Wyatt their ABC's & many more things. Although she was not a family member by name or birth, she will always be Emma's Big Sister. Most importantly, we are a very tight family with a strong belief in God. Since Abby & I were married, we have had a strong faith & continue to do so. We continue to share that belief with our children. God is & always will be the cornerstone of our family. We are counting on seeing Emma & Jesus in Heaven one day.
