Emma's Run Organization
Emma's Run 2007
History of Emma's Run Organization The first Emma's Run was in March 2007, one year after the passing of Emma Addison Simpkins. She was lost in a tragic accident in the driveway of her home in Anthem, Arizona on 26 March 2006. Emma's parents, Abby & Bill Simpkins wanted to find a way to remember their daughter while helping others in their community. At the time of Emma's accident many people living both in and around Anthem came to help the Simpkins family through the most difficult time in their lives. The Simpkins' wanted to repay that debt forward to other families that would need help in the future. Emma's Run was the way to do that as well as saying thank you for the help they received. We Care In Anthem and Eric Kilstrom were there for the Simpkins family financially during the days after Emma's passing and for that reason We Care In Anthem will always be one of the charities to which Emma's Run donates money. Eric was and is still a huge part of the Simpkins' lives and was the inspiration for them to form the first Emma's Run in 2007. In The Beginning The Emma's Run Organization was formed by a group of people that wanted to reach out to the Simpkins family after Emma's death. Tracey Tibbs was the driving force behind the organization that formed the first Emma's Run. Abby Simpkins had an idea about a running event and she mentioned it to a friend. Tracey appeared and took on the challenge and ran with it right from the beginning. The person that was most responsible for getting Tracey involved with the Simpkins Family was Scott Foreman, "associate pastor of caffeine" at the Fellowship Church of Anthem. On any given day you can find Scott hanging out at the Anthem Starbucks coffee shop spreading his cheer to the masses. At the same time that Scott stepped up to help the Simpkins he had just lost his twin brother in an accident. Scott had worked through this first year after his brother's death under tremendous emotional pressure of his own as well as starting a new company, Water for Our World, AND managing to fulfill his daytime job as associate pastor. Eric Kilstrom, the organizer of We Care In Anthem was also a huge influence on Emma's Run. Without Eric's dedication to the Simpkins family they might not have been inspired to take on the journey of the Emma's Run project. Last but not least, without the emotional and spiritual support of Ted Baird, the head pastor of Fellowship Church of Anthem, we probably would not have succeeded in launching this tremendous undertaking. Emma's Run 2 This year Emma's Run was renamed Emma's Run 2 for the second annual Emma's Run. Emma's Run 2 has been expanded to include a 5K, 10K and kids 1K run. The reason for the change in the format is based on the desire to touch more people's lives across the Valley of the Sun and beyond. The Simpkins' family and our number one mission is to help as many children and families in their time of need, whether that is in Anthem, Phoenix or Africa. We Care in Anthem will always be the main focus of Emma's Run, but as the Emma's Run event grows, so will our ability to help many other organizations. This is only possible through your donations. This year we have also teamed up with Water for Our World, a non-profit company that helps to provide clean sources of water to children in Africa and other world locations.. The founder of Water for Our World, Scott Foreman, is also an associate pastor at Fellowship Church in Anthem and a big part of making Emma's Run possible. Scott has a vision to provide villages around the world with clean drinking water to help prevent the spread of diseases that wipe out huge numbers of children everyday. Emma would tell her family that "I love you more than bunnies!" and with that in mind Emma's Run moved on from a memorial of Emma to a celebration of Emma's life. Emma loved everyone and no one was a stranger to her - she would smile and wave at everyone she met. Emma was a beautiful red haired 6 year old with a heart of gold. Through Emma's Run we hope to love the world's children more than bunnies! We are not doctors that can cure them from these terrible diseases or engineers that can build wells for clean drinking water, but we are caring people that have a desire to help. With your donation we CAN love the world more than bunnies and keep Emma's dream alive. The Future of Emma's Run ~ The Dream!
