Emma's Run Organization
Silent Art Auction
Auction Tickets are on sale for the five original works of Art, created to be hung together in an ensemble & aptly named "Emma's Symbolic Garden" by Visual Artist, Annie San Martin of Palm Beach, Florida & her inspiration Emma Addison Simpkins of Anthem, Arizona. One hundred percent of the donations collected for the art drawing will be given to Emma's Run Organization. Winner will be announced the day of the race. This will be the very first of what is to become an annual event originating with the artistic creations of Emma Addison Simpkins. Yes, our special little Emma was a visual artist & the inspiration for the addition of the art aspect within Emma's Run for the first time in 2008. Indeed, Emma's original works of art gave birth to the art created for our permanent logo & our very first of many original art raffles. And coming in 2009, our first annual Emma's Run poster will be available for purchase along with the raffle of the original work itself. We hope that everyone can appreciate art as much as our little Emma did and encourage those who cannot run (for some reason or other) to participate in helping children by taking part in our raffle & future poster sales. The artist chosen to represent our first year in art, Annie San Martin is handicapped & was more than happy to be chosen to participate in Emma's Run in a way that could help us raise money for more children & encourage all "non-runners" to participate. We hope you appreciate the efforts & join in on purchasing these highly collectable works of art & posters. We plan on being here to help the kids for a long time to come & hope you'll collect them all!!
The 5 piece collection was created using Utrecht® 90lb. drawing paper & Prismacolor® colored drawing pencils/pens & spray sealed with Utrecht® UV protectant. The Symbolism Annie was given a flower & butterfly drawn by 6 year old artist, Emma Addison Simpkins herself & she incorporated them into the drawings full of symbolism. Emma used to say, "I love you more than bunnies," so naturally the drawing had to start with a bunny. A very special bunny. Annie, having been to the Anthem, Arizona area, knew about the Daisy Mountain chain & that the area was referred to as "the valley of the sun." The bunny design may have started with Emma but the design itself is reminiscent of North American Indian arts & crafts found in the area around Sedona. The bunny's front ear contains symbols of the sun & pools & droplets of water that represent the Colorado River where much of Phoenix's water originates. The second ear is symbolism often used by Annie in her sculptures & paintings representing "God's Eye" & "young life." She combined the two to remind us that it may be hard to understand "why such a young life is taken away, but God always has a plan for the things He does." The bunny's eyes represent Emma's own beaming bright blue eyes. The sun rises over the mountains where "forget-me-nots" in Emma's favorite color, float in the sky above the Daisy Mountains which can be seen from Emma's neighborhood, touching the sky. Below the Daisy Mountain chain, one can see Emma's butterfly & her favorite flower, the daisy. A saguaro cactus just like the cacti surrounding Anthem even contains the nest of a wren as it would in nature. The water flowing beneath is once again, the Colorado River. The prominent colors of aubergine & azure are those of mountain & sky, especially near the end of each day. Lastly, the tail of the bunny was especially drawn for Emma's brother, Isaac. While Annie visited the area, Isaac took her & musician husband, Roy, on a hike & warned them of the "jumping cactus." The flower & butterfly drawn by Emma, & given to Annie have been incorporated into the drawing are easy to identify. As one can see, three of Emma's butterflies are flying around the drawing. One being in the sky upon the bunny. The pretty pink flower with the leaves on the stem, is Emma's. The large background mountains are those beyond the Daisy Mountains & made to resemble the colors of many of the mountains of the areas between Anthem & Sedona. In two of the 8" x 10" drawings, Annie has reproduced Emma's pink flower & butterfly. The hand symbolizes the North American Indian, roadrunner bird, wild mustang, desert lizard, sun & once again, Annie's own symbols of life under God's watchful eye. The drawings are highly stylized to resemble that of a six year old child's coloring book. In all, a complete tribute to a talented little artist named Emma Addison Simpkins, who loved everyone & everything in her young life as much as she loved the colors of pink & purple, flowers & yes, soft cuddly bunnies.
